까마귀는

The crow may bathe his coal-black wings in mire,

And unperceiv'd fly with the filth away,

But if the like the snow-white swan desire,

The stain upon his silver down will stay.

까마귀는 숯같이 시커먼 날개를 진창에 적셔도

사람 눈에 띄지 않고 진흙이 묻은 채 날아간다

그러나 흰 눈 같은 백조가 그런 짓을 한다면

은의 솜털에는 오점이 남아 있게 된다.
